The IRS’ strategic plan for the next four years includes stepping up enforcement. Collecting unpaid taxes will require effective deterrence capabilities, so IRS will increase examinations, especially in areas with high risk of non-compliance. The IRS will be focusing on high-income and high-wealth taxpayers, partnerships, and large corporations.
The progress they make will be measured by the number of examinations started during the year. Of the $80 billion the IRS will receive over the next 10 years, $45.6 Billion will be spent on enforcement, and they expect to collect more in tax than the amount spent on enforcement.
Please keep in mind that you have the right to retain representation if you are contacted by the IRS. You don't have to go it alone. Many times when taxpayers try to handle tax problems themselves, it ends in frustration and poor results. You can contact us for help and we can step into your shoes and deal directly with the IRS so you don't have to.
